Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a procedure performed to increase the size of a woman’s breasts using implantable prostheses. This is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures and has become even more popular in the last few years! We are proud to specialize in breast augmentations and enjoy seeing our patients happy with the results!
There are numerous reasons to have a breast augmentation. Many women are unhappy with the size of their breasts and want them to be slightly larger. Some moms want their breasts back to their pre-pregnancy/pre-nursing size and shape. Also, other women suffer from breasts that are not symmetrical, and a breast augmentation will help to make them more uniform. Many women also get an augmentation to give them lift and cleavage. Regardless of your reason for wanting breast augmentation surgery, it can help increase your self-esteem!
Prior to surgery, you will have a consult with Dr. Yospur. It is important to us that our patients are in good health. We use this time to go over the procedure and what to expect before, during, and after surgery. Though we are proud of our results, we want to make sure that your expectations are realistic. We also want to hear about the goals that you want to achieve from this surgery. This will allow us to better understand you so that we can make your dreams come true.
There are several types of implants to choose from, depending on your needs. The most common type is a silicone gel implant. These implants are the most natural, and your breasts will look and feel normal with them. Dr. Yospur also offers round implants which work well for some patients. We also have anatomic implants which work best when your chest wall is wide and its vertical height is short.
The last type of implant that we offer is a saline implant, which is a silicone shell filled with saltwater. These implants are less expensive, though some people complain that they have visible rippling and wrinkling. We are happy to explain these options to you in depth during your consultation. We will help you make an educated decision about which type of implant you would like.
The next decision is what type of incision Dr Yospur will use. The most common one is a periareolar incision, which is made along the bottom of the areola. This incision has the least amount of scarring. We also offer inframammary incisions where Dr. Yospur makes an incision along the bottom of the breast in the crease. This works well for those who have a small areola. Making the incision under the breast in the crease helps hide the scar. Dr. Yospur can also make an endoscopic transaxillary incision if needed.
For breast augmentation, Dr. Yospur uses either an injectable sedation or general anesthesia. Once you are asleep, an incision is made on the breast. A pocket is made and the implant is placed inside. We use the greatest care to ensure that the implant is placed correctly for a realistic-looking breast! He then closes the incision, being careful to minimize the appearance of scarring.
Many people combine their augmentation with a breast lift. This will help improve the way that your breasts look. It works well with women who have weak breast tissue and makes the breasts more natural looking.
It is perfectly normal to have some bruising, swelling, and redness after your augmentation. If you have any discomfort, we can prescribe oral medications to help. However, it is important to give your body time to recover afterward. You need to rest. We recommend taking about a week off of work. You should avoid any strenuous activity for three to four weeks following your procedure. Many patients are able to exercise again after about a month. Though you will experience swelling, it should start to go down about six weeks after your surgery, and you will be able to see your true results at that time.
